Looking Through the Walls to Petergate Street

Here's a closer-up of the Bootham Bar showing the view into High Petergate street.  Since this was a Viking town, the geographic terminology is somewhat different:  A gate is called a bar; a street is called a gate (so Petergate street leads to St. Peters, the cathedral).  A bar is called a pub (but we probably can't blame that one on the Vikings).  After Bush gets our immigrants to take English lessons, he should get the English to take English lessons.  (He's so popular with them, anyway).  

Petergate street follows the same path of its Roman predecessor, the Via Principalis (yes, that means Main Street).
