Parque Juarez honors the "Abraham Lincoln of Mexico," the five-term president Benito Pablo Juárez García who plotted his rise to power from New Orleans. This is a pleasant 250-acre green space just South of the central city.  The pavement splits off in several directions over two (mostly dry) arroyos which were pretty much open (and motionless) sewers until the Friends of Parque Juarez were formed and reformed the park starting around 1991.

With fund-raising help from the Audubon Society, the Amigos del Parque also added playgrounds, sprinkler systems, public facilities, and a whole lot more to this old colonial park.

Much of the park is a lively place with basketball games and other activities for the Miguelinos.  But there are several monuments, often religous in nature as seen above.

We stayed about two blocks from the park and often heard lively brass music emenating from its direction around 6 PM.  We suspect it was a band practicing/performing at this band shell.
